Engine Overheats:
- Bad temperature guage or sending unit.
- Bad cooling system thermostat.
- Broken cooling fan belts.
- Low oil level or incorrect grade/type of oil used.
- Engine brake exhaust valve stuck in closed position.
- Blocked radiator or deposit on water jacket walls.
- Excessive engine exhaust system back pressure.
- Excessive rolling resistance due to dragging brakes or low tire pressures.
- Excessive engine friction.
- Use of a winter front.
Engine Does Not Reach Operating Temperature:
- Bad cooling system thermostat.
- Bad temperature guage or sending unit.
